Architecture Alums Celebrate New Milestones

The big Homecoming game was this past weekend, and although the Cougars were unable to clench a win, the University of Houston is winning in many different ways—specifically within the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture. From winning the Global Arts Affairs Foundation prize to a College of Architecture Alum becoming a top designer for Lamborghini, to our Associate Professor being featured on PBS, the College of Architecture is accomplishing amazing things. And now, the University of Houston Industrial Design Program has been ranked among the best in the world. To be such a young program, to be ranked among the top 15 and a Fed Dot Design Award winner is a great feat for the Tier One institution. Of the award, director of the UH ID Program EunSook Kwon says, “This ranking reflects the hard work of our students, as well as our faculty. This is still a young program, but it’s grown quickly. We’re honored by this ranking and will continue to strive for excellence in our curriculum and in how we prepare our students for the field of industrial design.” Also among the Red Dot winners were ID Program alums, Andrea Novoa and Yen Le Loftin, for “Manta” –a flotation device used to teach adults how to swim, and “Uplift,” a collapsible personal utility cart.
